LAAX

Laax is a high-altitude alpine resort where terrain, park/freestyle culture and village atmosphere converge. Nestled in the Graubünden region’s Surselva valley, Laax (with its neighbouring villages of Flims and Falera) offers strong snow reliability and a winter playground shaped just as much for serious riders & freestylers as for broader ski audiences. It’s equally characterised by its “freestyle mecca” status—home to large snow-parks, a world-class half-pipe, and a mix of reality-TV styled terrain and accessible slopes.

Why go to LAAX?

Because LAAX lives and breathes snowboarding. It’s home to the legendary LAAX OPEN, hosts international pros all season, and continues to innovate in park design, sustainability, and resort experience. The mix of progressive riding and stylish mountain life makes it a must for anyone into freestyle or freeride culture.

How will beginners get on?

Despite its pro reputation, LAAX caters well for first-timers. Wide, gentle slopes in Flims and Falera, modern lift infrastructure, and top-notch ski schools make progression smooth. The resort’s “Beginner Friendly” runs mean newcomers can build confidence while soaking up the big-mountain atmosphere.

Pistes / park / powder

LAAX offers 224 km of pistes served by 28 lifts, from mellow groomers to high-alpine freeride faces under the Vorab Glacier. The freestyle scene is unmatched: four snowparks, a 200-metre halfpipe, and the P60 park — one of Europe’s longest. For freeriders, the backside runs off Crap Sogn Gion and Vorab deliver deep-powder days when storms roll in.

What activities beyond slopes?

Off-hill, LAAX has a thriving creative and social scene. Explore the Riders Hotel art space, hit the Freestyle Academy indoor park, or unwind at the Rocks Resort spa. There’s also snowshoeing, tobogganing, and hiking around Flims’ stunning turquoise lakes.

How to get there?

Fly to Zurich Airport — about 1 hour 45 minutes by car. Trains run from Zurich to Chur, then PostBus connections go directly to Laax and Flims. Driving? Take the A3/A13 motorway toward Chur, exit at Reichenau, and follow signs to Laax.

Where to stay?

The Rocks Resort at the base of the gondola is LAAX’s stylish hub — modern apartments, restaurants, and bars all in one. Budget travellers can check out the Riders Hotel, a design-led lodge with eco credentials and a lively scene. For a quieter stay, Flims has several classic Swiss chalets and spa hotels.

Where to Eat

From organic cafés to fine dining, LAAX keeps taste buds happy. Grab a coffee and bowl at Nooba, dine at Signina for alpine cuisine, or eat slope-side at Capalari on Crap Sogn Gion. The area’s sustainable food ethos shines across the resort.

Where to Apres?

LAAX après mixes modern beats and mountain vibes. Head to Indy Bar or Il Pub for casual drinks, or take it up a notch at Galaaxy Satellite Bar — the high-altitude venue above the clouds. Later, the Riders Club keeps things going with DJs and snowboard-scene energy well into the night.
