Rock A Rail Snowboard Tour Kicks Off 2026 in Budapest This Weekend

Urban snowboarding returns to the spotlight this weekend as the Rock A Rail Snowboard Tour launches its 2026 season with a historic first stop in Budapest. From January 9–11, the iconic rail contest takes over the heart of the Hungarian capital as part of the Generali Freeze Festival, marking the tour’s first-ever appearance in Hungary.

Set against the backdrop of the Városligeti Műjégpálya, one of the largest and most historic ice rinks in the world, Rock A Rail brings its signature street-style snowboarding format directly into the city centre. For the snowboard community, it’s a milestone moment, introducing a globally respected urban contest to a new country and audience.

A New Season Starts Early

Unlike previous years, the Rock A Rail Snowboard Tour opens the season unusually early, with Budapest serving as the sole winter stop before the tour resumes in autumn 2026. Following this weekend’s event, the tour will return to familiar territory later in the year, with confirmed stops in Hintertux (AUT), Thun (SUI), Innsbruck (AUT) and Riga (LAT), before culminating once again in The Hague (NED) in December.

Now entering its fourth season, Rock A Rail has firmly established itself as one of the leading international platforms for urban snowboarding, known for its creative, technically demanding rail setups and rider-driven progression.

Local Pride and International Talent

All eyes in Budapest will be on local standout Botond Fricz, who arrives riding a wave of momentum after winning the Rock A Rail finale in The Hague at the end of 2025. Fricz made his mark throughout last season with a second-place finish in Thun and a decisive victory at the tour’s final stop, cementing his reputation for an uncompromising, rail-focused style.

In the women’s competition, Great Britain’s Mia Langridge enters Budapest as the reigning Rock A Rail Tour Champion. With four podium finishes across five events in 2025, Langridge demonstrated exceptional consistency and will be the rider to beat as the new season gets underway.

Festival Atmosphere in the Heart of the City

Rock A Rail is just one highlight of the Generali Freeze Festival, which transforms City Park into a winter playground throughout the weekend. Alongside the snowboard competition, visitors can expect live music from Hungary’s top artists, public ice skating, and one of the country’s biggest winter parties.

Sunday’s program places a strong focus on the next generation, with an Open Kids Jam hosted by Snowboard Hungary, giving young riders a chance to experience the energy of a major international event.

With world-class street snowboarding, festival vibes, and a landmark new location, Rock A Rail Budapest promises a powerful start to the 2026 season, and a statement moment for urban snowboarding in Europe.
