Kundalini Rising: Burton x Nychos x Blue Tomato

Designed by Street Artist Nychos, Burton is dropping a new limited edition snowboard together with Blue Tomato.

Big news in the snowboard world – Burton and Blue Tomato has teamed up with world-recognised street artist Nychos, the founder of the Rabbit Eye Movement, to drop a limited edition snowboard.

About the Artist | Nychos

Nychos is an alter ego, created by a kid who grew up amidst a clash of cultures: a world where Austrian
tradition and its hunting culture meets eighties pop culture, comic and television. The visual input from back then still contributes to the output of the adult.

By the means of anatomy, Nychos investigates the living species across different contexts and different media. His favorite tool is the spray can, his favorite surface is large. Questioning contrasts, he unifies looseness and accuracy, severity and irony, the inner and the outer world, the dark and the bright, and most importantly, life and death. Within his oeuvre, one embraces the other. All becomes one.

Deeply rooted in graffiti, his work spans murals, fine art, illustrations, sculptures and animations. He is the founder of Rabbit Eye Movement, co-founder of The Weird and member of the Lords crew. His works have been exhibited globally. He currently lives and works in Vienna and Los Angeles.

About the Board Design | Kundalini Rising

With Kundalini Rising, Nychos opens a view into the invisible. Known for his anatomical insights, he also
here reveals layer after layer and connects anatomy, spirit and energy in an impressive way.

The design visualizes the energetic process of spiritual awakening. Along the spine, the Kundalini rises, depicted as a snake and symbol of life force energy. It awakens in the Root Chakra, winds its way along the chakras and follows the vagus nerve upwards. On its way it releases old traumas and opens the Third Eye, indicated through the eye of the snake.

At the tip of the board the Crown Chakra finally becomes visible, radiating purpose and wholeness. At the center stands the spine, the axis between body and energy – perfect for a snowboard that embodies balance, movement and flow. Kundalini Rising stands for the awakening of inner power in many ways.

About the Collaboration | Blue Tomato Statement

“Nychos has been part of the Blue Tomato community for over 10 years, having designed parts of our stores in 1010, 1070 and Munich, with the first artwork dating back to 2010. Together with Burton we want to set a strong cultural marker. By joining forces for this collectible, limited board drop, we’re not only creating visibility but also positioning Blue Tomato as a brand that can stand for uniqueness and exclusivity within the retail environment – a true point of differentiation.

The distinctive edginess of Nychos’ art adds an authentic cultural layer, perfectly bridging boardsports, art and street culture. At the same time, this initiative strengthens our longterm partnership with Burton and expands our presence in the art and street art world.

To complete the narrative around the SMU board launch, we are now also investing directly in Nychos’ art and will carry several of Nychos’ fine art prints exclusively in Europe.”

About the Collaboration | Adam Ellis (CEO) Statement

“We created this project because we wanted to find a way to connect and create a platform for Nychos. His art impacts us both visually and emotionally and we wanted to marry that impact with snowboarding which impacts us emotionally and is super fun and powerful. Over the years, we have had art and artist work with us on our shops, we have sold cans, and this was an opportunity to celebrate that and create visibility for Nychos. We celebrate the connection between art and snowboarding. So many people in our company and community love art and snowboarding and this is a chance to combine them.“

“We have a deep and profound respect for Nychos that has only increased over the years in working with
him. We are fortunate that he has always been a connection for us and his art was part of a couple of our
shops. His work is rad.“

“The most exciting thing is the chance to tell a story, to extend our connection, to grow with both communities. The other thing that excites me personally will be riding the board this year – its going to be fun to rip around on some art.“

About the Collaboration | Nychos Statement

“Designing a snowboard for Burton felt like a childhood dream coming true — a full-circle moment where
the legacy of such an iconic brand comes together with my art and vision.”

“Working with Blue Tomato feels like rolling with family — real, committed, and always pushing the vision
forward.”

About the Collaboration | Burton Statement

“Culture starts locally, and this project was designed with that in mind—a small-scale, limited run of
something truly unique for the local snowboard community.”

“Creative expression and supporting artists have always been central to Burton’s creative process. For this project, we had the chance to work with Nychos and create something one-of-a-kind for snowboarding, inspired by Nychos’ signature style.”

“This drop also celebrates our highly collaborative partnership with Blue Tomato—one we’ve been building together since the late 80s. Kundalini Rising is featured on an early release of next season’s fully reengineered Burton Process snowboard. With all-new materials, a lighter and snappier feel, and improved response thanks to a brand-new sidecut shape, the Process continues to get better year over year.”
