This thrilling 28-minute film follows Alaskan snowboarder Ryland Bell as he takes on a 3,200-foot spine line – nearly twice the size of anything he rides near his home in Haines, Alaska. Just reaching the top required 4.5 hours and 4,000 vertical feet of bootpacking.
A multigenerational commercial fisherman and born-and-raised Alaskan, Ryland has spent his life balancing salmon season with riding some of the world’s steepest terrain. In DIG, he and his crew embark on a monthlong expedition on a remote glacier west of Haines – only to be slammed by a storm that buries their camp under 25 feet of snow. For nearly two weeks, they rationed calories while shoveling six hours a day to keep their tents from disappearing before finally getting the break they needed.
The film captures the first descent of the massive 4,000-foot line and offers an early look at Ryland testing Patagonia’s new PowSlayer Freeride Kit in extreme conditions.
